📚 How to Use the BGE Progress Tracker
Welcome to Stranraer Academy's BGE Progress Tracker! This tool helps you monitor and support your child or ward's development across all subjects throughout their Broad General Education (S1-S3).
🎯 Getting Started
- Select a Faculty: Click on any of the six faculty tabs (Creative Arts, Healthy Living, etc.) to see the subjects within that area
- Choose a Subject: Select the specific subject you want to explore from the sub-tabs that appear
- Pick a Year: Use the dropdown to select S1, S2, or S3 to see year-specific information
📊 Understanding SQA Levels & Progress Indicators
What are SQA Levels? The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) organises learning into four levels during Broad General Education:
- Level 1: Early/First Level - Foundation skills typically achieved in Primary
- Level 2: Second Level - Building skills, expected by end of Primary or start of Secondary
- Level 3: Third Level - Developing skills, typical for S1-S3 students
- Level 4: Fourth Level - Advanced BGE skills, preparing for National Qualifications
What do the Progress Indicators mean? Within each level, there are four stages:
- B (Beginning): Just starting to develop skills at this level
- S (Some progress): Making steady progress with developing skills
- G (Good progress): Demonstrating good understanding and application
- V (Very good progress): Showing secure achievement at this level
Expected Progression Through BGE:
- S1: Students typically progress from 2B → 2V across the year (Term 1: 2B-2S, Term 2: 2S-2G, Term 3: 2G-2V)
- S2: Students typically progress from 2V → 3G across the year (Term 1: 2V-3B, Term 2: 3B-3S, Term 3: 3S-3G)
- S3: Students typically progress from 3G → 4 across the year (Term 1: 3G-3V, Term 2: 3V-4, Term 3: 4)
Finding Your Child's Level: You can find your child or ward's current level and progress indicator on their latest Progress and Achievement tracking report provided by the school each term.
The tracker will indicate whether progress is "On Track," "Exceeding Expectations," or "Needs Support" based on these expected progressions for each year and term.
