Photographers of the Week – 13/10/23

As we draw to a close of a truly inventive term, I extend my deepest gratitude to all who have presented their photographs this week. The reaction was absolutely staggering, and regrettably, I haven’t managed to showcase everyone. However, rest assured, I meticulously archive every photograph, and if you’ve been overlooked this week, your moment under the sun is on the horizon. Kudos to Evan Stevely, James Turtle, Shauna Kinahan, Kaci Johnstone, and Carys McMillan, all of whom are debuting as featured photographers.

Leading the array is ‘Lost Kingdom’ by Carly Brown, a mesmerising capture of a withering edifice, strikingly poised between positive and negative spaces, juxtaposing coarse textures with smooth nuances and organic patterns. The intriguing low angle injects an undeniable drama.

Lucas Arnott’s ‘Gateway to Enchantment’ ingeniously employs framing to accentuate the hidden allure of the forest. The pristine white blossoms offer a poignant focal point, whilst the trees weave an organic tapestry.

‘Paradise Beyond Palms’ epitomises the invigorating essence of Florida. Masterfully balanced between light and shadow, it seamlessly melds exuberance with serene undertones.

‘Innocence in Isolation’ offers a more sombre palette, yet it’s a profound depiction of a confined calf. The elegant curves juxtapose beautifully against the stark lines of the wall, whilst the crimson collar offers a heartening contrast against the subdued hues, capturing the viewer’s gaze.

‘Glimmers of Growth’ by Archie McCubbin radiates under nature’s luminance, with the leaf’s translucence masterfully rendered in both luminescence and shadow. A delicate lens flare further enriches the composition with warmth.

Nature’s Spotlight” by Robbie McNairn is a masterful depiction of the natural world, showcasing a rich depth of field. The vibrant, saturated greens are beautifully rendered, demonstrating excellent colour balance. The sun, positioned using the rule of thirds, serves as a compelling focal point, drawing the viewer’s eye with its warm luminosity. The composition offers an immersive visual experience, evoking a sense of serenity and harmony.

Shauna Kinahan’s ‘Car Lights’ presents a riveting interplay of illumination and obscurity, with rich, warm hues harmonising against the chilling embrace of the nocturnal expanse. The composition, deftly employing the rule of thirds, is sheer brilliance.

‘Twilight Tales of the Farm’ by Kaci Johnstone paints a canvas of a resplendent sunset, imbued with rustic allure. The backlight artfully silhouettes the tree, introducing intricate forms, with the timeworn outbuilding enriching the tableau with texture.

Archie McCubbin’s ‘Rustic Rails’ is a breathtaking pastoral capture, with the railway elegantly guiding the viewer’s journey through the frame. A judiciously chosen mid f-number lends a softness to the backdrop, imparting depth to the image.

To conclude, Carys McMillan’s ‘Clouded Chrome’ offers a riveting vista of a car show, with the automobiles guiding the narrative. The juxtaposition of rugged pebbles against gleaming metal introduces contrast, and the vibrant palette of blues, yellows, and reds injects vivacity.

Anticipate yet more spectacular visuals post-holidays. Kindly channel your submissions to gw19jamesross@glow.sch.uk.
