Staff Social Media

Rural-focused program of learning taken at S3-S6. Emphasis is on practical hands-on experiences, visiting a range of farm and rural enterprises throughout the year. In addition, students work in school in the school polytunnel and garden, working with a trained horticulturalist to develop their skill set growing and nurturing plants.

Rural Skills

Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh program runs weekly in school, with participants undertaking sections such as volunteering, skills, and physical in their own time during the course of the year. The school supports the expedition section through provision of most required kit – rucksacks, tents, cooking equipment – as well as preparing and guiding participants in their groups and individual planning for their overnight adventures.

Achieving a DofE Award fosters skills, confidence and gives an edge over others when applying for college, university or a job. The DofE Award is a fantastic way to demonstrate and evidence the development of ‘soft skills’ such as communication, commitment, leadership and teamwork.

By doing the DofE young people also make a difference to other people’s lives and through their community work, be fitter and healthier, make new friends and have memories to last a lifetime.

Battlefields Trips

Annual S3 Residential Trip – Belgium & France

Each year, S3 pupils have the opportunity to take part in a seven-day residential trip to Belgium and France. The trip usually takes place during Study Leave, in the third or fourth week of May.

Our base for the week is the historic Flemish town of Ypres, from where we explore key battlefields, memorials, museums, and war cemeteries. The trip combines immersion in history with moments of reflection and remembrance, focusing on the themes of sacrifice and legacy.

Highlights of the itinerary include:

Ypres & The Salient

Attending the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate and visiting the Scottish Memorial

Exploring the In Flanders Field Museum

Visiting the Passchendaele Memorial Museum and Hill 60

Paying respects at Tyne Cot (British Commonwealth) and Langemark (German) cemeteries

Parent Council Social Media

The Parent Council are always incredibly active across its social media and continuously adds new posts about events, news, and opportunities, as well as supporting and building capacity amongst Scotland’s parents to capitalise on children’s learning experiences.

Research evidence shows that when parents, carers and other family members are effectively involved in their children’s education, the outcome for their children is better and our parent council continue to contribute to the school and greater community.

Follow the links to each of the Parent Councils’ social media pages.
