Welcome back, camera crews — it’s the very first Photographer of the Week of the new session, and honestly, the summer holidays clearly gave everyone a masterclass. We’ve got fairground fireworks, moody Highland lochs, a stone seal that isn’t real but looks more relaxed than most of us on a Friday afternoon, and a wood wasp in such crisp focus it looks ready to apply for a passport.

Standout of the week has to be Taylor Smith’s Wood Wasp Warrior — a macro shot so sharp you can count the hairs on its legs, which is either brilliant photography or deeply concerning. We haven’t decided. Hamish Scott, meanwhile, has been busy — turning in not one, not two, but three entries, from a John Deere tractor the size of a small house to a puppy so deeply asleep it’s basically running a professional nap tutorial.

Elsewhere, Matthew Knowles caught the Red Arrows mid-breakup AND lightning cracking over a Stranraer housing estate in the same week — somebody hasn’t put that camera down since the gates opened. Madison More went full wildlife double bill with a barn owl and her own dog Storm giving it the full soulful stare, while Francis Lawton somehow made a LEGO TIE fighter crash-landing in the back garden look like a proper film still.

From Portpatrick harbours to fairground dodgems, castle ruins to a cormorant giving it the silent treatment on a harbour step, this week proves one thing: hand a Stranraer pupil a camera and they’ll find something worth stopping for. Keep them coming — S1 to S6, every single one of you.
