Issie Lamberton: Rising Star of Highland Dancing Shines in Premier Competitions
Over the past 5 months out competing in Highland Dancing, Issie Lamberton has gone from strength to strength. At the beginning of the year, she is Intermediate level, Issie won 8 Overall Winner Trophies in a row which gave her the courage to ask Dance teacher Mrs Bowie about moving into Premier. Issie’s exact words were “I am prepared to not win for a while to push myself to get better”. Mrs Bowie agreed the time was right and Issie is now competing in Premier (the top level of Highland Dancing) competing against Champion dancers and holding her own each week.
So far in Premier Issie has competed in 10 Competitions 1 Pre Championship and 1 Championship and the results are as follows-
1st places – 7
2nd places- 7
3rd places- 18
4th places- 12
5th places- 11 and
6th places- 18
The main placings in Premier are 1st to 6th with the competing level being so difficult with huge numbers in groups.
Issie has also achieved a 2nd place Trophy, 3rd overall Trophy, 5th Overall Trophy and recently in her most successful weekend being 18th and 19th of May, won her first Overall Premier Trophy and gained her Champion status winning 6th Overall in the Championship lineup.
For a girl who was willing to not even place, she has certainly shown her dedication by training hard and bringing lots of silverware home representing the Wallace School of Dancing and our local town of Stranraer.
Issie is also about to embark on her teaching journey. This month she will be sitting the first of many theory exams (alongside her dance exams in Highland, Scottish National, Jig, Hornpipe, Tap, Modern and Acrogymnastics) in Highland Dancing in hopes of achieving one of many goals to become a Highland Dance Teacher.
This year in August Issie will also be competing in the World Championships held in Dunoon at the Cowal Highland Gathering each year.
Well done Issie!
