A Weekend of Wins: Issie Lamberton’s Solway Championships Experience
Issie Lamberton travelled to Dumfries on Saturday, 5th October, to compete in the annual Solway Championships. On Saturday morning, Issie participated in the Closed Championships, which is exclusively for dancers who are residents of Dumfries and Galloway. The purpose of this event is to select dancers to represent Dumfries and Galloway in the Scottish Area Finals held in Oban each year. Issie achieved remarkable results, placing 5th in her Highland Fling and Sword Dance, 4th in her Reel of Tulloch, and 2nd in the Seann Truibhas.
These results meant Issie returned home as a 3rd place Champion and with the honour of being the reserve dancer for next year’s Scottish Area Finals. The day’s celebrations didn’t stop there; in the afternoon, Issie competed in her first-ever Premiership.
A Premiership is equivalent to a Championship but uses National dances instead of Highland. Issie won yet another trophy, finishing 6th overall as the Premiership winner.
