Earlier this year, Issie Lamberton, Premier dancer at the Wallace School of Dancing in Stranraer, had the pleasure of receiving a Scholarship Recommendation after completing her Grading exams towards becoming a Highland Dance teacher with Distinction (the highest pass mark).
On Saturday, 23rd November, Issie travelled through snow, ice, and high winds to attend the Scholarship weekend held at Ingliston Country Club and Hotel in Glasgow.
During the event, Issie competed against 26 other candidates in a Scholarship Class hosted by current adult World Highland Dancing Champion, Rebecca Thow. She also completed a written exam, performed “Her Heart Will Go On”—a tribute dance in memory of the late Jessie Haggarty—and lastly, performed her own choreography, which she had created entirely by herself.
Out of the 27 candidates, only six places were available. Issie’s results were remarkable, and something she was stunned to achieve:
Scholarship: Overall 4th Place Winner
Tribute: Overall 6th Place Winner
On Sunday, Issie attended a full afternoon of workshops hosted by various dance teachers from Scotland, where she worked on 2025 Championship and Premiership steps, followed by a fun choreography session to end the day.
