Language & Communication

It is important to note that language learning consists of not only one but two parts. Firstly, it is essential that your child acquires proficiency in their mother tongue, such as English or Gàidhlig, to be able to effectively participate in society and education. Secondly, exposure to and proficiency in additional languages can greatly enhance their linguistic ability and communication skills. As they progress through their language learning journey, your child will have the opportunity to develop a comprehensive understanding of how language works and apply it when conveying ideas and information in both English and other languages. Additionally, through language learning, they will hone their ability to express their own thoughts and emotions while engaging with those of others. It is worth mentioning that the curriculum has specific experiences and outcomes laid out for every stage of learning, ensuring a clear and concise pathway of progression from preschool to S3. If you wish to find out more, visit the provided link to download experiences and outcomes for various languages such as literacy and English, literacy and Gàidhlig, Modern languages, Gaelic (learners), Scots language, and Classical languages.

“‘What day is it?’, asked Winnie the Pooh.

‘It’s today,’ squeaked Piglet.

‘My favourite day,’ said Pooh.”
