🎨🖌️ Visiting Artists Spark Creativity at Stranraer Academy!
Today, on March 8th, 2024, Stranraer Academy had the pleasure of hosting Recoat, a renowned team of artists who have been making waves in the world of urban art since their inception in 2007. Founded by Amy Whiten and Alistair Wyllie, Recoat began as a pioneering gallery space in Glasgow, dedicated to showcasing Contemporary Urban Art and Design in Scotland.
For six years, Recoat served as a beacon of creativity, curating projects and exhibitions that supported and promoted Scottish artists while inviting inspirational talents from around the globe to share their work. Their mission? To make art more accessible, to more people, while maintaining high-quality standards and, of course, having fun along the way.
In 2013, Recoat underwent a transformation, shifting its focus to three distinct areas: Commissioned, Curated, and Community projects. Despite this evolution, their core values remained steadfast—championing creativity, fostering connections, and making a positive impact on communities.
Today, Stranraer Academy welcomed Recoat, bringing their urban art expertise and passion to contribute to the Spring Fling Rural Mural Project. Under Recoat’s guidance, our S2 students enthusiastically participated in vibrant workshops, delving into the creative journey and experimenting with interactive tasks. They brainstormed ideas revolving around landmarks, events, and memories, translating their inspirations into personalised drawings reflecting the essence of Stranraer. These drawings were then incorporated into the collective year group mural, further enhancing the collaborative artwork.
As we reflect on today’s workshop, we celebrate not only the transformative power of art but also the vision and dedication of Recoat. Thank you to the entire Recoat team for sharing your talents and igniting the spark of creativity within our students.
