Marvel’s Wolverine – PS5 Review

78 Metacritic
Average

Insomniac Games — the studio behind Marvel's Spider-Man — swapped web-slinging for claws on 15 September 2026 with the launch of Marvel's Wolverine on PS5. Gone is the open-world city; this time it's a tight, brutal, linear action game built entirely around one very angry Canadian mutant, and it's the first time Insomniac has let a Marvel hero actually bleed.

Reviews have landed mixed-to-strong: Game Informer gave it 8.5/10, calling it "relentless momentum," while PlayStation Universe praised the combat as "the brutal efficiency of Wolverine's destructive ferocity, captured better than any film or game before it." It's not flawless — several critics flagged repetitive encounters and a fairly predictable story — but across 112 reviews it's settled around 78 on Metacritic. Lower than Insomniac's Spider-Man games, sure, but still a genuinely good time, especially if you go in wanting a straight-up, fists (well, claws) first action game rather than another sprawling open world.

The Verdict

If you like Wolverine, or you just want the most viscerally satisfying melee combat on PS5 right now, this is worth your time — around 15 hours to finish. Just don't expect another Spider-Man-sized world; this one's built for speed, not sightseeing.
