Photographers of the Week – 17/11/23

The week has come to an end, bringing with it another impressive array of photographs from our featured photographers. It’s truly delightful to witness such a consistent showcase of beautifully composed images week after week. This time, the Higher Photography group ventured to Agnew Park to capture the well-maintained park areas and local wildlife. A special congratulations to Thomas Agnew and Tristan Miller for sharing some of their favourite images.

Let’s dive into the highlights:

Rebecca O’Sullivan presents “Waves of Twilight,” a captivating image that skillfully contrasts rough and smooth textures. The fast shutter speed effectively captures the ocean’s intensity, while the warming orange sunset harmonises with the cooler blues.

Lucas Arnott, with “Fields Beyond the Ruins,” artfully uses a frame within a frame technique to guide the viewer’s attention to rustic fields beyond a ruin. The subtle depth of field softens the image, guiding the eye to the clear blue sky and achieving a balance between positive and negative space.

Jonathan Sneddon’s close encounter with a swan at Agnew Park results in a detailed and sharply focused image. The shallow depth of field keeps the viewer’s attention on the swan, with the vibrant orange beak adding a delightful pop of colour.

Jack Barrett, in “Symmetry in Safety,” cleverly uses the bright red lifebuoy ring to draw the viewer’s eye, incorporating symmetry with two trees. The vibrant background strikes a balance between natural and man-made elements, creating a lively composition.

Tristan Miller’s “Trucks Oasis” skillfully contrasts the man-made with nature, utilising complementary red and green colours to brighten and warm the image. The warm sun introduces a sense of relaxation and tranquillity for the viewer.

Archie McCubbin’s “Her Majesty” employs symmetry, pattern, and texture to accentuate a swan approaching the viewer. Leading lines guide the eye, and reflections contribute to a balanced composition, with the swan’s bright highlights ensuring it stands out in the water.

Thomas Agnew captures the essence of a “Golden Dusk over Urban Lights” in a landscape image that beautifully blends the orange sunset against the dominating cooler purples of the night sky.

Korbyn McCredie’s “Berry Burst in Autumn Hues” radiates with autumn warmth and harmonious colours. A shallow depth of field accentuates sharp details of the berries, with bright reds instantly grabbing the viewer’s attention.

Finally, Lucas Arnott’s “Golden Hour Homestead” dramatically uses contre-jour to backlight the home, with subtle highlights adding depth. The cloudy sky, pierced by warm oranges of the sunset, imparts much-needed warmth to an otherwise ominous image.
